Matt D asked: I have been taking toprol xl for about 6 months now for slightly elevated blood pressure and the occasional heart flutter. My cardiologist said my heart was fine - they did all the test including treadmill, sonogram of my heart etc. He said everything was great, but that I needed to lose weight to get my blood pressure down. So I have, I have dropped 8 pounds in the last month and am steadily going. But tonight I want to have a few beers with a friend to celebrate his birthday and want to make sure I’m not going to kill over and end up on one of those news specials for some dangerous drug interactions. I have been reading on the internet and most of what I have found said that it could increase drowsiness and I shouldn’t operate cars etc - but one place said it could decrease the medications affect - so.. any thoughts?
I take my toprol at night, in fact it was about an hour and a half ago. I went ahead and had one light beer and cut at that. I can’t say that I feel it is interacting - but it’s not worth taking the risk. Thanks to all for the advice.
