Open Question: what would you think if your teacher gave you this poem to read?
there once was four fat chicks who lived in a hut
but one of them ate it so then they were stuck
so all of the fat chicks moved into a tree
but their weight made it crash and then there was three
there once was three fat chicks who lived in burger king
well they lived in the dumpster behind it but you know what I mean
the manager mistook one for a cow and made her into a stew
then the dumpster burnt down and then there was two
there once was two fat chicks who lived on the beach
eating stray tourists and washed up fish meat
one got mistaken for a whale, thrown into the ocean, and was gone
she couldnt swim out and then there was one
there once was a fat chick, for death she would plead
she had high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary heart disease
joint problems, sleep apnea, cancer and metabolic syndrome
she died from being obese and then there was none

Open Question: Do you know of a child who has a hole in their heart?
Recently my daughter was diagnosed with ASD - Atrial Septal Defect. The cardiologist has asked to see her again in 6 months, and no treatment is required at present. The hole may close by itself and if it doesn’t then a plug will be put into her heart. I’m lucky that the paediatrician found her heart murmur, when I took my 2 month old daughter to see him about a different matter. If this wasn’t picked up then, I may not have known of her condition until she was 7-8 years old. I would like to hear from anyone who has a child living with this condition or a child who has had their heart plugged.

Open Question: health quest.?
Mr. Smith is telling his friend about his recent visit to his doctor for a checkup. During his story, he mentions that the ECG reveled that he had a defective mitral valve and a heart murmur. Mr. Smith apparently misunderstood some of what the doctor explained to him about the diagnostic process. What has he misunderstood?

Open Question: I have episodes of rapid heart beat and mild to moderate chest pain around my heart when I inhale?
I have had this “problem” from the time I was six-years old. I am now almost twenty-three. When I was a little girl I would say “my heart hurts” when it occurred b/c I had no other way to describe it. Now I realize it is probably more my lung, but it only ever hurts in the area where my heart is. I was born with a heart condition–VSD (a hole in my heart w/a murmur) and so at the time they did tests on my heart, and found nothing. A few years later when I was about eleven years old it was diagnosed as asthma. I have one other friend who experiences the same pains who was also diagnosed w/asthma. but when I speak to others, or even search asthma symptoms on the internet it is not listed as a symptom. Could I have been wrongly diagnosed? I am asking now b/c i am pregnant w/my 2nd child–and I have been have this “asthma attack” (pain while inhaling deeply) along with some rapid heart beat early on, for a number of hours. It seems to mostly have subsided now, though. so–is this asthma?

Open Question: I’m tired of black people and I’m tired of white people.?
They just need to get out of here. It’s such a black and white world that I’m honestly thinking about majoring in Sociology and then finding ways on how I can make this country a truly DIVERSE place of living. I don’t want to click on the news and find studies about ONLY black and white people and their risk of heart disease. What about other races AND even ethnicities?? What is their risks of certain health issues. I’m almost being skeptical of having a only Black History Month. Well…I don’t know. I think we should have a multicultural history month where we celebrate Black, Native American, Asian and Hispanic descented people’s traditions and culture. I understand how we have it, but at the same time it does seem to cause more tension.
How do I find a career where I talk to television networks about this issue. It’s making white and black people hate eachother.
I’m not tired of any race, I’m just annoyed about black people and white people being portrayed in the media. I’m not a hater, I’m an appreciater.
I realize I’m black. So, don’t say I’m trying to deny my heritage. I want to represent black women in a better light and let young black women love themselves at the beginning of their lives, not just learn to love themselves as time passes.
No, I don’t want to preach. I just want to FIND A JOB where I can just change this racial divide. I wish we could all unite.
If there are Native American, Asian…months then why aren’t they more noticeable?? I hardly ever see native American people anywhere, they are like isolated from society.
You all can help me!! Lol, honestly we should just like plan something out so we can change this. This is an ever changing place, America is.
Nigeria I am. I get really sensitive about this subject. I want equal rights for everyone, this people I know are Asian and they were getting racial profiled, I told someone I knew and I started crying. I hate seeing that happen.
Yes, what made me so sick to my stomach and made me burst out all my emotions on here was that Health blog I was reading about. It only contained the risk of white and black people. No other races or ethnicities. I’m just like, “is this a joke??”

Jason Ellis asked:

It’s a pretty common scenario for most first time panic attack sufferers to immediately think they’re having a heart attack.  After all, one of the most prominent symptoms of a panic attack is a POUNDING heartbeat that seems to flutter out of control.  It’s pretty terrifying. Plus, if you’re unfamiliar with the symptoms of a panic attack, a heart attack seems like a natural conclusion to what you’re feeling.

Because it’s so common to mistake the chest pains that normally accompany panic attacks for a life threatening heart attack, this article will clear up the confusion and differentiate between the two.  Upfront, I just want to say that people don’t die from panic attacks.

So even though it feels like your heart is going to pop right out of your chest during one of these episodes, the fact is, attacks like these are analogous to intense levels of cardio exercise with one major safety net.  Extreme cardio exercise may potentially lead to heart attack whereas a panic attack will force you to pass out or faint before any real damage is done.

That’s because the physical symptoms of a panic attack are triggered by an offset in breathing (usually hyperventilation).  Your heart isn’t being strained; it’s being thrown into a natural fight or flight response.  Also, your heart isn’t what’s causing the panic attack – your mind is.

The fear combined with the physical sensation creates a natural sense of urgency.

Every year, thousands (if not millions) of people having chest pain, difficulty breathing, pain or numbness in the left arm and tingling throughout the body end up in a hospital emergency room because they believe they’re having a heart attack. Typically, a few tests are run, and the patient is sent home because the nature of the attack he or she experienced is one of panic, not coronary.

Here, I’ll outline the symptoms of both a heart attack and a panic attack so you can see their subtle differences.

The two share several common symptoms. For instance, the chest pain from a heart attack is focused in the center of the chest and is crushing, as if a heavy weight is sitting on top of the chest. It is usually persistent, may radiate to the left arm, neck or back and lasts longer than 5 - 10 minutes. Heart attack victims don’t hyperventilate (unless the person’s fear of heart attack triggers a panic attack), any tingling they experience is usually confined to the left arm, and vomiting is common.

During a panic attack, chest pain is localized over the heart and described as “sharp, and comes and goes. The pain usually intensifies with breathing in and out, and pressing on the center of the chest. Panic attack may cause nausea, but vomiting is very rare. If tingling is present, the entire body tingles. Hyperventilation almost always precedes a panic attack symptoms If the location of the pain moves to the center of the chest, doesn’t go away within 10 minutes, is accompanied by more than one incident of vomiting or diarrhea, or goes away and returns a few minutes later, you should immediately get medical attention.

Now, if you’re having panic attacks, you may be inclined to worry about how these episodes are affecting your heart long-term.

Panic attacks don’t cause heart disease, and some experts say that they actually affect the heart similarly to the way cardio exercise does, by causing the release of adrenaline, increasing the heart rate, and expanding blood vessels. On the same note, heart disease doesn’t cause panic attacks, although a person with a history of panic attacks who is actually having a coronary may also panic for fear of worsening the heart damage, dying or being disabled.

That said, stress is NEVER good for your overall health so it’s important to start treating your panic and anxiety right away.  You won’t hear me say that stress benefits your health of course but try not to think of stress as some terminal condition.

The truth is if you don’t have traditional risk factors – you’re not a smoker, you don’t have high blood pressure, obesity, have a family history of heart attack, your risk should be very low.

If you’re having panic attacks, chances are you have high levels of anxiety and this kind of constant stress can lead to obsessions about your health.  I’m here to tell you that if you take care of yourself with exercise and proper eating (something you should be doing anyway), you don’t need to worry about heart failure during a panic attack.  It simply won’t happen.  The two scenarios (panic attacks and heart attacks) are completely separate animals and should be treated as such.

Now that said, just because you won’t die from a panic attack, that doesn’t mean you should just live with the debilitating anxiety it creates.  There IS help for you.

Using the correct techniques and exercises, you CAN learn to control and even completely eliminate panic attacks.

I’ve made it incredibly simple to start taking control of your anxiety right now with a FREE video I’ve created on my website.  The video is called “Anxiety Free Tactics” and it shows you step by step how to overcome anxiety and panic using 21 natural techniques you can learn in minutes.

Open Question: Diagnosed with a heart murmur for first time….?
I was at my the doctors getting examined for my Naval Academy medical application. When i was there the doctor said taht i have a heart mumur and was surprised that i had never been told to before. She said that mine also had the qualities of a non-functional murmur so i have to have a ECG done.
My questions are:
*What treatment should i be expecting if it is non-functional?
*Should this affect whether i get into the Naval Academy?
*How is this going to affect my working out and running (im very active)
*How is this going to affect my already high blood pressure (or is it the cause)
Thank you very much. I am not very educated on the subject.
