Open Question: One year of being smoke free! Yeay! How long has it been for you?
I love being smoke free! I feel so much better!
I have now met all of these milestones:
In 20 minutes, your blood pressure and pulse rate decrease, and the body temperature of your hands and feet increase.
Carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. At 8 hours, the carbon monoxide level in your blood decreases to normal. With the decrease in carbon monoxide, your blood oxygen level increases to normal.
At 24 hours, your risk of having a heart attack decreases.
At 48 hours, nerve endings start to regrow and the ability to smell and taste is enhanced.
Between 2 weeks and 3 months, your circulation improves, walking becomes easier and you don?t cough or wheeze as often. Phlegm production decreases. Within several months, you have significant improvement in lung function.
In 1 to 9 months, coughs, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease as you continue to see significant improvement in lung function. Cilia, tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs, regain normal function.
In 1 year, risk of coronary heart disease and heart attack is reduced to half that of a smoker.

Open Question: What can I do about my weight?
I’m 16, 5′2”, and weigh 128 pounds. I’m on the swim team at my school, and I practice about 2 hours 7 times a week. I suffer from shortness of breath and heart murmurs as well. I only drink water and sometimes milk. I eat whole wheat, whole grain, and lots of fruits and vegetables. I don’t eat junk food.
I really think I should lose weight. I don’t like the way I look in the mirror. I don’t like being the widest girl on the swim team. I don’t like feeling embarassed about wearing a swim suit. AND I hate being told constantly by my mother that I need to lose weight. I have always had a hard time losing weight. Even with all the healthier changes (which have been going on since I was 10), I haven’t been able to lose weight. I’ve only gained weight. And then my mother keeps nagging me to lose weight cuz she’s 5′3” and weighs 102 pounds. Apparently, I have to be smaller than her.
It stinks how I have to eat super healthy just to maintain weight, and my mother can eat tons of junk food and calories and gain nothing.
What can I do to lose weight?
