Open Question: I think it’s my fault my dog died?
I adopted a puppy mill rescue dog, and had her for 2 and a half years. She died several days ago- she was an older dog when I adopted her (maltese), and the vet estimated she was 10-12 years old when she died. She’d become sick about 10 days ago- vomiting, lethargy, etc, and I took her into the vet when it didn’t get better after 24 hrs. She stayed there for almost 5 days being hydrated, blood tests run, x rays (which showed nothing), before she was a little better and they sent her home with me for the weekend. She wasn’t eating at the vets, and he thought maybe she would eat at home in her own environment. The 1st day back she did better, but then stopped eating and started acting lethargic again, so back to the vets we went. The 2nd blood test showed an infection had started- we had no choice but to do exploratory surgery (my vet wanted to avoid because she was old, had a heart murmur, and some other health issues). Her heart stopped beating during surgery. they found a small piece of foam in her intestines- partial blockage- didn’t show up on the xrays because it had absorbed fluids. I feel so guilty, and completely at fault because I knew she had done this type of thing before. I remember her stealing my napkin in the past and starting to shred it before I took it away. I remember my larger dog ripped apart his kong toy, and she found one of the little pieces after I thought I’d cleaned everything up, and ate it. She threw that up without incident. I’m not a messy person and didn’t have clutter on the floor, and if I saw something small that shouldn’t be there I picked it up. But somehow I missed this, and I KNEW I had to be careful. I loved her so much and wanted to give her a good life after being rescued from that mill. 2 and a 1/2 years doesn’t seem enough. I hope she forgives me and knows how much I miss her- how do you get over guilt like this????

Open Question: Asthma or heart problems?
I’ve been having some weird symptoms over the past 3 days, and they’re starting to worry me. I have shortness of breath, I have trouble breathing when I lay down flat, my chest feels *a little* tight, and one night I had really rapid heart beat. (My pulse was like 105) Now, I have asthma, but it’s “exercise induced”, and it’s been under control for years now. I also have a heart murmur. But I’ve never had actual heart problems before, aside from some serious heartburn a few years ago. I’m also 17. Isn’t it kind of unheard of for a teenager to have a heart attack or some kind of heart issue?
What seems most likely? (I’m planning on going to the doctor, but I just wanted to ask.)

Open Question: My dad died when I was 11, now 25 I’m still finding hard.?
When I was 11 my dad died of a heart attach brought on by a genetic disease called ALD. As my parents split when I was 2 I only saw my dad once every two weeks and as he died when I was 11 I didn’t get to know him as well as my older brothers and sister.
The problem I’m having is that after his death I thought about him everyday for years, only up until a couple of years ago when it started to be days between thinking about him. I miss him so much but it feels like I’m forgetting him by not thinking about him. Does that make me a bad son?
I would like to share a dream I had a couple of months ago. In my dream my father was suddenly alive, I couldn’t explain it but he just was. And I have never been so happy in my life. He got to meet my fiance, I got to speak to him, talk to him and spend as much time with him as I wanted. I remember waking up smiling, crying as for a couple of seconds I felt it was real and not a dream. Even though it was a dream I have never been happier.
It seems like I can’t get over it, I have spoken to family and friends but it doesn’t help. I’m stuck, I think I need help.

Open Question: What kind of dog to get for elderly lady?
My Grandma has a Miniature pinscher, mini, that it sadly seems will be passing away more sooner than later :( Mini is 11 Years old has a heart murmur, bad arthritis, liver problems, and possibly cancer. My grandma is a 77 year old widow who lives in a medium sized (approx 2,500 sq ft) ranch, with a 1/4 acer lot. When her dog, Mini, does pass away she wants another dog as a companion, and to help keep her safe. As i said my grandma is 77 years old so she is looking for a dog that is relatively low maintenance, that she doesn’t have to exercise a lot, and one that is easily trainable. Are there any specific breeds that will fit this criteria?
Thank you so much!
Daniel

Open Question: Right vs. Left Heart Cath?
A few weeks ago I failed my stress test. It was only a treadmill test with an EKG. Nothing else. So they sent me to have a heart cath done, but I found out afterward it was a left heart cath. Everything was clear.
I’m not in good shape at all, but I have started a walking plan and have worked up to about 2 miles. Sometimes I still get out of breath, especially with inclines. I can walk 2 miles on an even surface fine, but if I go up the stairs, like 15 steps, I’m out of breath. And once in awhile, I’ll have chest pains if I’m walking up an incline. It always feels like it is the right side of my heart and goes up towards my right collar bone. If I stop and rest, it goes away quickly.
I’m being treated for high blood pressure also, that is pretty stubborn and isn’t going down. I’m up to 1 fluid pill and 2 other pills.
Would the left heart cath show any problems with the right side of my heart? Or could it be microvascular disease? Should I set up an appointment with a cardiologist instead of just working through my family doctor? (I’m 48, by the way, and some heart disease does run on my mother’s side of the family)

Open Question: Is it true I couldn’t get into the army with mild asthma?
My asthma is mild, and “exercise-induced”, which emans it only occurs If I do intense running ro something. so if I take my inhaler before, I’m fine. It’s not like something I would constantly have to whip out. And if I have to run or whatever a good deal, I wouldn’t have an attack and endanger fellow soldiers, its just very uncomftorable. also have a very small heart murmur, but it doesn’t really have any symptoms. Would any of these things make me inelligible?

Open Question: I was born with a Heart Murmur?
So, just recently my mom told me i was born with a Heart Murmur.
I don’t think its that serious, cause i’ve never known this before. So it was probably just an innocent Heart Murmur.
But im just wondering is their any risk?
Im 15 years old & i sometimes smoke weed & cigarettes, but only socially. (Which i know is bad, but im stopping)
Im not addicted to it. I personally hate smoking marijuana, i’ve only done it a few times with friends.
So my concern is, because of my Heart Murmur can smoking increase diseases for me or anything?
Do i have a higher risk of getting diabetes or cancer?
Do i stop earlier than my friends while exercising?
Any info would be very appreciated, thank you!
& no rude comments… thanks.

Open Question: Seriously< How do I become a vampire?....serious or funny answers only...I already know I'm an idiot?
I am thinking about taking VAMPIAGRA
The modern medication for vampire transformation
But VAMPIAGRA is not for everyone. If you have a history of necrophilia, nocturnal emissions, or are nursing you should not take VAMPIAGRA. People report immortality as the primary effect of VAMPIAGRA. If you experience sensitivity to sunlight, sensitivity to a crucifix, or a thirst for blood you may be experiencing a rare but pretty serious side effect and should consult with an ordained minister. Other side effects include: explosive diarhea/ uncontrollable flatulance, mood swings, heart arythmia, death (followed by somehow coming to life), elongation of the canine teeth, transforming into a bat, and a strange evil laugh. But if you want to get onto the road to living forever and burning in hell ask your occultist if VAMPIAGRA may be right for you….VAMPIAGRA…the first bite is always the best…MUUUHahahahhaha….-WENDY

Open Question: Could I possibly have acid reflux disease?
I’m only 16. For about a week now, I’ve had non stop heart burn! Nothing make it better! I’ve tried Pepto Bismol and Alkazelzer. I ate healthy all day yesterday, and nothing got better. What causes this? Is it acid reflux? What causes acid reflux?
Also, I have chronic constipation.

John Parks asked:

Heart disease is a broad term that describes a number of conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. Some of the most common include cardiovascular disease, heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia), congenital heart defects, infections of the heart and cardiomyopathy. Heart disease is responsible for 40% of all deaths worldwide, making it the number one killer for both men and women. There are a number of factors that can increase the risk of developing heart disease. Some of these factors are beyond a person’s control, while others are more related to lifestyle and bad habits.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the most common types of heart disease that is associated with controllable risk factors. It is a disease in which blood vessels are obstructed or narrowed; it can lead to heart attack and stroke. Symptoms include chest pain or angina, shortness of breath, coldness or numbness in the extremities. In many cases it is not diagnosed until chest pain, heart failure or heart attack occurs. It is important to be aware of the signs of this disease and see a doctor if any of these symptoms arise. Regular checkups may also be beneficial in detecting cardiovascular disease in the early stages. Atherosclerosis is the most common form of cardiovascular disease. Smoking, lack of exercise, poor nutrition and being overweight are all risk factors that can be addressed with lifestyle changes.

Arrhythmias are abnormal heartbeats. Symptoms can include a fluttering in the chest, a racing or very slow heartbeat, lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting and shortness of breath. Risk factors include excessive use of alcohol or caffeine, smoking, drug use and stress. Other causes are coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Congenital heart defects are a form of heart disease that people are born with. Generally, this type of disease becomes evident within the first few hours, days or weeks of life. The symptoms could include a pale gray or blue skin tone, swelling around the eyes and in the abdomen and legs, shortness of breath during feedings and slow weight gain. Other symptoms of non-life threatening congenital heart defects may be a shortness of breath or tiring easily during exercise, swelling of the hands and feet, and fluid in the heart and lungs. Researchers are not sure what causes congenital heart defects, but medical conditions, medication and genetics may be factors.

Infections of the heart can affect the outer lining, the heart muscle or the inner membrane. An infection can cause fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, weakness, arrhythmias, coughing, swelling and spots or rashes on the skin. Bacteria, viruses and parasites cause heart infections. There is a link between infections of the heart and poor oral health.

A thickening or hardening of the heart muscle is called cardiomyopathy. Breathlessness during rest and exercise, swelling of the legs and feet, abdominal bloating, fatigue, irregular heartbeats, dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting are symptoms of this type of heart disease. Studies have yet to determine the cause of cardiomyopathy.

Treating diseases of the heart is easier with early detection. It is important to have routine physical examinations, inform your doctor of any family history of heart disease, and see your doctor as soon as you begin experiencing any symptoms.
