Open Question: How do you honestly feel about alcoholics…?
In your heart of hearts, do you believe that alcoholism is a disease or character weakness/flaw? When you hear that someone is a recovering alcoholic, what really comes to mind in terms of how you feel about this person, I mean like assumptions (whether positive or negative).
How do you feel about someone that can be a “functional” alcoholic whereby they maintain a good family life, stable employment, highly productive employee, good & honest citizen but has an addiction where one has to drink to a point of proper intoxication every night with vodka or scotch (non-violent, never drives whilst under the influence, etc.)?
Do you feel differently depending on the gender of the individual? When you hear the word “alcoholic,” do you instantly picture a man or a woman in your mind?

Open Question: Could you give me names that fit with my story characters?
Okay my story is about a girl that might have a heart disease or cancer i don’t know yet so just give me the names to the characters below its only for my two main characters they are both teens (thanks!)
First character is a girl, she has a weak heart or cancer i cant decide yet, she is depressed and lonely, she has no friends and rarely ever talks, she has black hair, light blue nearly grey eyes (like avril lavigne) and a light skin tone.
If you can please put the meaning of the name as well
Second character is a boy, he is wild and a player (that’s until he meets my first character) he owns a motorcycle that he lets no one ride since he says it’ll get jealous, everyone knows him and he is good at all sports, he has black eyes and i cant decide on his hair colour his skin tone is the same as my first character.
Not so bothered about meanings
Thanks :)

Open Question: Do you like this story of mine so far?
Okay I asked this before but everybody just complains that it was too long (It’s really not that long)
Chapter 1: Claire
?I like you.? I spoke to him, waiting for his response. I clenched my fist, my heart beat grew rapid. ?Like how?? He asked flatly. ?I really like you- Like that.? I sounded like an idiot. He laughed. A nervous awkward laugh though. ?Yeah, I don?t think of you that way.? He told me. ?Oh.? And ?oh? was all I said. My heart sank. I just ruined my chances at any kind of relationship with him. ?We can still be friends?? He offered.
?Yeah.? I said.
Silence.
Silence.
Silence.
?I have to go? I told him stepping up gingerly.
?Well bye, nice seeing you? he said and with that, left.
As I was walking away I mentally cursed myself. I (Like always) let my emotions get the better of me. And, now he was probably never going to talk to me again. I sighed deeply, and laughed. Yes I actually laughed. In situations like this, it seems like laughing is the last thing you would do, but it?s pretty funny when you think about it really. The awkwardness and all. Maybe I was just a bit nuts? Who knows. But laughing really takes the pain away. I now understand what they mean, when they say ?Laughter is the best medicine? I had been using this trick for a long time, whenever I felt depressed or upset (Which is basically all the time) I just burst out laughing, or tried to find the humor in it. That?s why I think my perfect job would be a comedian (If only I could come up with some good jokes) So in a way, I was making myself apathetic to sadness, which probably isn?t very mentally healthy but who cares? I was now three blocks away from my apartment which is on the corner near the park I had just left. That?s when I realized I forgot my keys. Nobody was home so I couldn?t ring my bell either, so the only logical thing (In my mind anyhow) was to ring someone else?s buzzer. ?Who is it?? They asked from the intercom. ?Fed-ex? I said back. They buzzed me in. ?Morons? I thought to myself. This apartment was old, dirty, and 7 stories high. I?m really glad there is an elevator so I?m not constantly forced to climb the stairs. The elevator was broken. ?****? I murmured. I believe sometimes that I have the worse luck than anybody in the world. Atleast the stairs would be some exercise. When I had finally gotten to the seventh floor (Which I live on, unfortunately) I was out of breathe. Luckily my mom left the door unlocked. My apartment was small, two bedrooms one bathroom. It was cluttered and reeked of cleaning liquids. I took of my battered shoes (Which were so ripped and torn it?s pretty embarrassing to wear them actually) and walked to my room. Ah. My room. Or as I called it ?The escape room? a room where I can escape all my problems, Atleast until my mother got home. I lay down on my bed (Which is actually just two stale mattresses put together) and replayed in my mind what had happened in the park with josh.
I told him I liked him.
He didn?t like me.
I was humiliated.
I left.
It’s the first page of my book. It’s basically a draft, the story line is based around 3 girls who all are struggling with their lives and have bad flaws and problems who eventually make friends. The first chapter is based around claire, A self piting girl with depression and little social skills. There are two mre girls, Lisa a promicious girl who will do anythng to get attention. And marcy, a popular bokworm with a huge and tragic seccret. Thanks for reading! And these books are going tobe very sad. One of the main characters dies later on.

Open Question: 13 Weeks Siberian Husky w/ Heart Murmur Grade 2 has Parvo?
My 13 week Siberian Husky has a grade 2 murmur, I took him to two different vets, one said his murmur level is between 1-2 and the other said it is between 2-3. This past Sunday (April 25th 2010) he woke up lethargic and threw up. I did not hesitate a bit and took him to the emergency immediately, that’s when I found out he tested positive for PARVO. To keep him in the hospital would cost way too much money for us, so I started the treatment on sunday in the emergency but took him home to continue the treatment with my vet’s supervision. When we got home he was feeling a little better after all the medicine he took in the Emergency. Monday morning I took him to my regular vet and he did throw up a little before and was a little lethargic as well. The Vet gave him all the medicines necessary to fight the disease and injected a subcutaneous fluid on his back to help keep him hydrated. We had been feeding him since Sunday with broiled chicken and white rice in small amounts, we also bought Pedyalite. He’s been drinking and eating since sunday when he got home from the E.R. Today is Wednesday 28th the 4th day of the disease and he has been progressively active, in fact he was very active this afternoon. His stool for the first time today was hard and not diarrhea like. My main questions are:
- Does it mean he is recovering ok from Parvo?
- Does a dog with a hurt murmur 2 have any side effects after Parvo?
- He is up for his second round of shots tomorrow, but apparently I was told he should not take and wait, but how long should he wait to take his second shot?
- Will he be Parvo free (immune)? Or do I need to worry about this damn disease again?
Sorry about all of these questions, hope someone can give me extra advices, so I can be better prepared to help my dog.
Thanks

Open Question: I recv’d a threatening letter from a clients attorney that the puppy i sold her had a heart murmur?
I made her aware before buying the pup that he hadn’t been to the vet or been vaccinated, he was only 5 weeks at the time and she insisted she didn’t want to wait the extra 3 weeks and said she would take him to the vet herself if I gave her a discount to cover the vet fees, I hesitated at first but gave in and sold it to her, she picked it up that same day and she signed a contract. She took him to the vet and that’s when the murmur was found, she returned the puppy after i gave her the option to keep it and the vet fees would be her responsibility or return it for a replacement puppy when one was available, I had her sign a 2nd contract stating she was returning the puppy and agreeing to wait for a replacement, she brought me the puppy but didn’t bring his paperwork and the vets diagnosis like she was required to per my contract. She stated she would overnight the paperwork to me, the following morning she calls and says she just wants her money back and if I don’t give it to her she will sue me. I told her my contract only warranties a replacement but no refunds and she started to bad mouth me, I told her to do what she had to do because I was sticking to my contract.
2 months later (today) I receive a certified letter from her lawyer stating that my contract was void from the very beginning because my contract states that I make every effort to guarantee that the puppy is in good health at the time of adoption and it wasn’t so therefore I have breached my own contract and the buyer has the right for a full refund plus vet fees and attorney fees.
any suggestions?
I live in the state of Texas and we don’t have any laws on puppies being sold under 8 weeks of age.
I did take it to 2 different vets and both found the same thing, I have rehomed him already and I also rehomed the mother of the litter as well because I didn’t want this to happen again.
well it’s not like I never took my puppies to the vet, I did take them to get their tails and dewclaws done and the vet checked them then and all the puppies were fine, how was I to know that the puppy was sick, I would’ve never sold him if I knew he was sick, I’m not a backyard breeder and out to make a quick buck if I were I would’ve kept the mother and still been breeding her. I know from right and wrong and if she didn’t like the terms of my contract she shouldn’t have signed it and brought it to my attention from the get go or she should have just gone somewhere else to get her puppy.
well I don’t think that because I made ONE mistake in selling her the puppy at 5 weeks makes me a back yard breeder, I’ve always sold my puppies after 8 weeks of age, I have 1 to 2 litters every other year because I let me females rest so I don’t think that makes me a bad breeder at all.

Open Question: pain in knee caps at only 14 yrs. old?
I am a 14 year old female. I am about 5′2 and weigh about 80 lbs. (Don’t worry, i’m not, nor have i ever been anorexic) I always eat a lot, but my metabolism is pretty fast. I’m not too active (although i am skinny) and my muscles are pretty weak. In the past 4-5 months or so, I have been having some pain in my knee caps. It isn’t constant though. I only feel it when i use my legs a certain way. Sometimes i feel it if i squat or sit on my knees etc. When i get the pain, it feels like a sudden tightening in my knee caps and goes away a short while after i stretch my legs out or walk a little bit. Does anyone know why i’ve been feeling this? I’m only 14 and still growing, and i am wondering if this is a sign of any diseases because i feel my bones are too young to be deteriorating.
P.S. The known illnesses in my family are diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, also my mom has arthritis.
Thanks so much! Your answers are a big help :)

Open Question: are heart murmurs common?
I am 29yrs old. I went in for a general check up at the doctor and she heard a heart murmur.
That is new for me. My doctor did an EKG and that was normal. Would an EKG pick up a heart valve problem? My doctor said that I should worry unless I start getting chest discomfort or shortness of breath. She said we will monitor it and if it progresses, do a heart ultrasound. How common are heart murmurs and should I be concerned?

Open Question: Chest pain….(heart related?)?
I currently had a chest pain for about two, three months now. It’s on the upper left side of my chest. It doesn’t hurt painfully, but I could feel an uncomfortableness and pain running down. I’ve been sad the passed recent days ( because I’m moving to somewhere else) and worries a lot about many different things. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the pain. Does anybody know what’s going on or what type of symptom I might have relating to heart disease? Is there a chance I might have a heart attack? Advises are more than welcome. Please no unnecessary or mean comments. Thank you

Open Question: Can someone please translate into German?
I need this translated into German as I have a tutor and she has told me I need to write about a healthy lifestyle. Please help and make a couple of mistakes as I wouldn’t be able to make it perfect and don’t use a translator as they don’t work properly thanks x
For a healthy lifestyle you shouldn’t smoke or drink alcohol as you could get diseases like lung or liver diseases or even cancer. You should also eat healthly by having a balanced diet, eating unhealthly could result in heart disease and high blood pressure.
Exercise Is very important to retain a healthy lifestyle as it’s needed to stay fit.

Open Question: Your patient comes in with fatigue, dizziness, joint pain, etc. - what do you suspect?
I just want some fresh heads to think about this. Something is missing.
You have a patient, early 20s, female, who comes in complaining of dizziness, fatigue, joint pain (especially in the knees). She’s a healthy weight, vegetarian, no use of drugs/alcohol.
You look at the patient history and see complaints of:
dizziness
fatigue
joint pain
Take her BP and it’s normal, but borderline low.
You investigate closer - anything you look into, the patient ends up being diagnosed with.
1. You see that she has irregular periods, so put her back on the birth control she has been on since she was 13 (because of the same problem - she’s not sexually active).
2. Look at her heart and find palpitations/murmur, so you put her on medicine for that, hoping that’s the cause of the fatigue. It helps the palpitations, but doesn’t help the fatigue.
3. Her family has a history of sleep apnea, so you send her to a sleep doctor for testing, and it turns out she has Narcolepsy.
4. The medication for narcolepsy doesn’t do anything, so you decide to check her thyroid — you figure out that she has Hashimoto’s disease and put her on medication for that.
All of this, and she still doesn’t feel better. She’s still dizzy - not as bad as before - still fatigued.
You want more answers, so you ask her if she can think of ANYTHING that could have led to all these symptoms, you find that she:
Swam in the Amazon River a few years ago
Lived next to a sewer and played in it as a child
Lived on a farm, riding horses, and had multiple ticks daily (including dozens of seaticks at a time when she’d step in a nest of them)
Also had many mosquito bites - her legs are scarred from them.
Went to Mexico when she was 14 and lived with locals for a summer
What are you going to do next? What tests do you want to run?
Note: Patient is not sickly, not frail. She doesn’t catch sicknesses more than any other person, and appears to be strong and healthy.
Hi Stephen, thanks for answering!
Joint pain= not everyday, but the days it occurs her knees hurt about a 7. Sometimes when she’s walking her knee will randomly slightly give out (she won’t fall - she’ll catch herself and just slightly stumble)
No exposure to sickly people.
Fatigued pretty much upon WAKING.
Definitely not sexually active
Echo shows everything’s fine - EKG shows sinus arrhythmia, premature ventricular complexes
She was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease and it’s under control with medication. Was borderline hypothyroid. Don’t have the #s in front of me.
She has blacked out twice. Once the day after giving blood, once the day before she was bedridden with an undiagnosed illness (lasted a week)
Medications:
Ocella
Toprol
Levothyroxine
I should also mention that I am NOT a doctor. Just a person looking for answers. The doctors working on this case just really aren’t getting to the root of the problem. They’re happy just to throw some medication at her.
