Open Question: I think I may have Marfan’s syndrome?
My grandfather was one of 12, 7 of his sisters had it… so it’s in my gene pool. I’ve never been tested for it or anything but my doctor mentions it once in a while. I’m 13, I’m 5′11” I weigh 150 pounds. I have random stretch marks even though I’m very athletic and not overweight/fat, I’ve been tested for asthma but I do not have it even though I can’t breathe very well when exercising (and I am in shape, I run a lot). I have very long toes and fingers, too. I’ve always been tall. My knees and hips hurt all the time, I have one flat foot and minor scoliosis (nothing that is too severe or needs to be treated… just a curved spine that causes me to be sore at points), plus I have a weird undiagnosed “heart murmur” in which I can feel at random times.
But yeah… do I sound like I have it?
I’m so scared that I do.
I know it’s not a big deal or anything… But I don’t want to NOT be able to have boyfriends and get married and have children because no one wants to marry a genetic freak. I want to be normal! I want to be able to have children without difficulty and I want men to find me attractive.. not a genetic mishap! What are the treatments? :’(

Open Question: Burning Feeling When Smoking?
I haven’t smoked pot a lot of times in my life. The last two times that I actually got high I’d feel this warm pulse from my heart throughout the front part of my body. I’d also get really lightheaded and dizzy, also causing in having shivers. It took a few hours to wear off. I had heart surgery when I was born for a heart murmur and my heart is perfectly fine. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with it but it doesn’t make me want to smoke pot again.

Open Question: Are people with mutations more likely to get cancer?
Just wondering because I had hypospadius, a webbed toe, a heart murmur, and I was born without the piece of tissue in the stomach that keeps stomach acid down.

Open Question: Should Husband continue relationship with his Father?
His mother is a drug addict/alcoholic and is as bad or if not worse than those people on that show intervention like shes probably gonna kill herself or die of the disease soon. and his father literally beats her and strangles her and he is an alcoholic himself but hes functioning at least. the father has found a new girlfriend and has moved out of the house and moved into his motorhome so he can live his new life. except that he goes to his/ his wives house every weekend and still loves her and he still has sex with the drug addict wife of his then goes off in the middle of the night and gets with his gf and then does this back and forth thing between his 2 women. at periods of time he says hes leaving the gf then gets back with the wife and moves back in but then it gets violent and goes back to his gf and he admits to being in love with the 2 women. the wife is absolutly heart broken and a complete mess but no one will say anything to this man because they think they should just respect him cuz hes their father. so me and my husband have been keeping our distance from them over the past year but of course we are always on like sucide duty with the mother or she shows up wasted and covered in bruises and all this bs. but the father is like a total 2 face and says all the right things to your face and acts all nice when you see him so its like hard to be or stay mad at me. well for my husband at least not for me. I think hes scum. so my husband went off and had lunch with his dad today and the dad showed him pictures of his girlfriend and was acting like nothing bad is going on in their lives and acts like nothing is going on. and my husband thinks hes being a good son by keeping a relationship with this man because thats what sons do. theres nothing i can say to my husband to make him think other wise what is your opinion what should I say? should i just let my husband keep making his dad feel good about himself? I feel like hes just adding fuel to the fire by making his dad think its cool what hes doing and that its his life and its not our problem we just want to all be friends and why cant everyone just get a long?
jessica- yeah :( unfortunatly i have tried to get him to go to alanon and ive talked to him about my feelings till im blue in the face and says its his issue not mine and I should stay out of it. its sad cuz my husband is bordering being an alcohol and following in his dads footsteps himself and it scares me. but its hard to imagine cuz hes such a great guy
Kira- thanks ill suggest it

Open Question: Can someone tell me more about a congenital heart disease?
I recently posted a question about heart disease for my story about a teenage girl who has a heart disease and it’s about her life. And my question was which heart disease should she have, in the end the answers said a congenital heart disease, i researched it a bit more but i couldn’t understand the scientific words so this is what i want to know:
Is it painful if you have a congenital heart disease?
If you have it you cant be active (e.g doing sports and things like that)
If the hole is small do they leave the hole their to close on it’s own or do they operate?
How long do you have to wait for an operation?
Do you have to have lots of operations?
And does it leave a scar when they operate?
Any extra detail will help

Open Question: Swelling/Bloat below belly button: What could this be?
I’m 29 5′6 and about 120lbs. I have PCOS, a slew of hormone issue, heart murmur and interstitial cystits. Starting about 3 years ago I developed bloat/distention below my belly button but above my hip bone. There’s not pain with it, but it makes my pants fit odd and frankly looks weird. It’s not fat and my doc isn’t sure what it is. CT came back fine.
Any ideas?

Open Question: MYSTERY chest pains! HELP!! I’ve seen 8 doctors and they can’t figure it out any advice would be so helpful!?
15 months ago I noticed a slight pain around my heart although I didn’t think much of it. About two weeks later the pain increased, I presumed it was from anxiety since it was chest pain although I had not been stressed out and my heart was not racing. When this would occur I would have pain near my heart and in my sternum it would last approx 15 min so I just dealt with it but this started happening 3 times a day even at night until one morning it didn’t stop. After two hours my body was violently shaking from the extreme amount of pain I was in and I would almost black out as I said before it would typically last 15 min or so. I went to the ER but had to wait, so I sat in the waiting room for a while I had to lean on my moms shoulder because I couldn’t sit up I was nearly blacking out, I was groaning and crying. I usually don’t let people know when I’m in pain but I couldn’t hide this. By the time I could actually get checked out the extreme pain had subsided although I was very sore and physically drained. I had an EKG, blood work and X-Ray’s and they all came back normal they suggested it was GERD but that I should have my heart checked out to be safe. I went to a Cardiologist soon after and had an echo (for a minor heart murmur), stress test and another EKG all came back normal. My chest cavity was so extremely sore for two solid months after the first ER visit that I couldn’t even walk a block without ending up in tears.
I have these episodes from time to time but I’ve figured out some things that trigger them so I avoid them.
1. Caffeine (MAJOR factor within a few hours I’m in horrible pain!)
2. Exercise (pain within ten hours, if I’ve been running it’s extreme pain if it’s something like crunches I’ll hurt but it is bearable)
3. Stress (even the slightest bit will aggravate it)
4. Sitting up straight (I have to slouch at work)
5. Wearing high waist belts or a bra.
I saw an internalist and she thought it was GERD so I went to a gastroenteronologist even though I didn’t think it was that because I would even have this pain when I hadn’t eaten anything but I found out it wasn’t GERD.
The frustrating thing is after 3 ER visits and 8 doctors no one knows what is wrong with my body. Sometimes the pain occurs at random so I can’t completely avoid it! I have been asked if it could be panic attacks but at the time this started I was working part time and I was relaxed! I have had a few anxiety/panic attacks in my life when I was under a lot of stress but they were not similar to this pain. Also, my heart does not race when this happens and I do not get a cold sweat. I’ve tried laying down and relaxing when I feel the bad pain starting up but it doesn’t help.
I think this may be a muscle issue since sometimes warmth alleviates some of the pain, unless it is at the point where I’m in extreme pain then home remedies do not help.
The last time I went to the ER was two months ago, I was throwing up because the pain was so intense. I don’t fear that it is something I will die from I only fear feeling that horrifying pain again and not always knowing when to expect it. I’m in moderate pain 80% of the time but I just deal with it.
One of the unusual things about this is when I’m in the extreme pain it is in my sternum but after the pain subsides and I’m just sore it is on the left side of my chest and if I press near my heart it hurts and makes me sorer for days. I thought perhaps it was Costochondritis and have asked a few doctors but they didn’t seem to think that’s what it was.
Anyone have any advice? The daily pain effects my whole life and when it is bad I CAN’T BEAR THE PAIN this has been going on for over a year and I’m not sure what to do about it since doctors are confused as well. The only thing that I’ve found that really helps temporarily is pain medication (not advil that does not work for this) the first ER doctor prescribed some for me (a month’s worth) but I can’t ask for some from another doctor because then they presume that you’re making symptoms up to get pain killers.
I feel helpless!

Open Question: What is the virtue of Ahl al-Bayt?
family of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) are: his wives, his children, and Banu Haashim, Banu ?Abd al-Muttalib .
Allaah has bestowed upon the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) numerous virtues. Ahl al-Sunnah wa?l-Jamaa?ah are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to love them and respect their rights.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
Similarly the family of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) have rights which must be paid attention to. Allaah has allocated to them a share of the khums and fay?, and He has enjoined that blessings be sent upon them along with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who said to us: ?Say: ?Allaahumma salli ?ala Muhammadin wa ?ala aali Muhammadin kamaa salayta ?ala aali Ibraaheem, innaka Hameedun Majeed, wa baarik ?ala Muhammadin wa ?ala aali Muhammadin kamaa baarakta ?ala aali Ibraaheem innaka Hameedun Majeed (O Allaah, send prayer upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon the family of Ibraaheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory. And send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibraaheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory)??.
Majmoo? al-Fataawa (3/407).
And he also said:
Similarly, with regard to the family of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) (Ahl al-Bayt), it is obligatory to love them, be loyal to them and respect their rights.
Majmoo? al-Fataawa (28/491).
Thirdly:
The virtues of the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him):
1.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
?O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allaah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner.
33. And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, And perform As?Salaah (Iqaamat?as-Salaah), and give Zakaah and obey Allaah and His Messenger. Allaah wishes only to remove Ar?Rijs (evil deeds and sins) from you, O members of the family (of the Prophet ??? ???? ???? ????), and to purify you with a thorough purification?
[al-Ahzaab 33:32, 33]
This does not apply only to the Prophet?s wives (may Allaah be pleased with them); rather it is narrated in the saheeh Sunnah that it also includes others. It was narrated that ?Aa?ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out one morning wearing a striped cloak of black camel hair. Al-Hasan ibn ?Ali came and he enfolded him in the cloak, then al-Husayn came and he enfolded him in it, then Faatimah came and he enfolded her in it, then ?Ali came and he enfolded him in it, then he said: ?Allaah wishes only to remove Ar?Rijs (evil deeds and sins) from you, O members of the family (of the Prophet ??? ???? ???? ????), and to purify you with a thorough purification? [al-Ahzaab 33:33].
Narrated by Muslim (2424).
2.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
?The Prophet is closer to the believers than their ownselves, and his wives are their (believers?) mothers (as regards respect and marriage)?
[al-Ahzaab 33:6]
3.
It was narrated that Waathilah ibn al-Asqa? said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say:
?Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, chose Kinaanah from among the children of Ismaa?eel (peace be upon him), and He chose Quraysh from among Kinaanah, and He chose Banu Haashim from among Quraysh, and He chose me from among Banu Haashim.?
Narrated by Muslim (2276).
4.
It was narrated that Zayd ibn Arqam said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood and addressed us at a watering place called Khumm, between Makkah and Madeenah. He praised and glorified Allaah, and he exhorted and reminded us, then he said: ?O people, I am only human, and soon the messenger of my Lord will come to me and I will respond. I am leaving among you two weighty things, the first of which is the Book of Allaah in which is guidance and light. Follow the Book of Allaah and hold fast to it.? And he encouraged us to adhere to the Book of Allaah, then he said: ?And the people of my household, I remind you of Allaah with regard to the people of my household, I remind you of Allaah with regard to the people of my household, I remind you of Allaah with regard to the people of my household.?
Narrated by Muslim (2408).
The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) paid attention to this commandment; foremost among them were Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq and ?Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with them).

Open Question: Will spaying my cat increase her life span even if she gains weight?
Spaying her will most likely cause her to gain weight because her metabolism will slow down and I am not going to start counting portions to reduce her food intake.
Gaining weight puts her at an increased risk of weight related diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
My house is escape proof and she cannot escape and breed with males if I don’t spay her so I don’t have to worry about this shortening her life if she is not spayed.
What I want to know is whether spaying her will increase her life span even if she gains weight (and she can’t escape the house if not spayed)?

Open Question: anemic, get blood test?
I have every symptom to a fine point, (Migraines, dizziness, history of passing out, bruising, shortness of breath, pale under eyelids, tingling in arms and legs, fatigue, angular chelitis, RLS, paleness, heart murmurs) and I’ve been often told to get tested for anemia. The symptoms are too bad, so once i discovered this possible anemia, I went out and bought iron supplements, and I’m feeling better.
My question is should I still get the blood test? Because if I go get tested now, the supplements will show that I’m fine, but if I stop taking them, I’ll feel horrible for all the days preceeding the appointment.

Open Question: Heart problems at the age of 22?
So i`ve been really stressed lately and everything has occurred in the past few months…to summarize
1. parents divorcing
2. father sleeping with another woman
3. mom depressed, sister cutting herself, brother bulimic
4. problems with a co-worker
5. thyroid cancer scare
6. Blew out my knee
7. Now saying i may need surgery on knee
8.Awaiting results of another cancer scare
Now i`ve complained about my heart racing and was told in a month i`ve developed a murmur and have to go for a wack of tests and quite frankly i`m incredibly scared…like to the point where i got more bad news at work and i had a total break down and spent an hour crying in the back.
Is it possibly that stress may be causing my heart problems?…I don`t know what to do anymore and i feel more and more depressed as each day goes on.
In all honestly i`m losing the will to live i`m having so much trouble dealing with everything
I know it’s generally nothing, but she’s having me go for blood work, an EKG, an ultrasound and wear a monitor because sometimes it’s been painful and have caused dizziness when my hearts been racing
i’m not allowed to exercise till they get my heart problem sorted out =(

Open Question: Christians: Do you believe that god intervenes in your life (to make it better)?
If you do, how is this reflected in rates of disease, accidents, unemployment, etc. for believers vs. non-believers?
If you do not believe this, how do you reconcile this with language like, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”? Or, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…and He will direct your paths”?
If you do not know, I don’t believe in any gods. My mother, a fine Christian lady, is now in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. And make no mistake, she IS suffering–crying and screaming and wearing a diaper. Belief in god makes no difference.
