Open Question: 25 year old female… heart problem? Please help!?
I’ll try to make this as short as possible. 25F..mostly healthy, I do have some anxiety issues, which I am not on any medication for. I want to start off by saying that my heart ‘condition’ seems to be more apparent in the summer months when it is hot outside. Basically it will randomly pound- it’s not even that it goes super fast, it pounds hard though, and just feels uncomfortable in my chest. Also, while this is happening, if I try to do any activities at all pretty much, it beats even more rapid & makes me feel somewhat overall sick. Sitting down typically puts it at ease, and after a somewhat short period of time it goes away. I know that when this happens it makes me anxious, which probably makes it even worse. I’m just not sure if anxiety causes it, or if I get anxiety because of it happening. It also sometimes feel like I have to force myself to breathe or else my heart is going to stop beating. That happens at night quite a lot once I lay down. I also notice it beats pretty fast and hard after a somewhat large meal, but it normally doesn’t last more than 20 minutes. Just to add a few more things, I am a singer in a band, and I notice that when I am singing at band practice I get somewhat dizzy & very anxious after hitting notes. Almost feels like i’m going to black out, like the blood rushes out of my head..I never do though. Could this all just be anxiety? It seems hard to believe that it could. Anxiety runs in my family, my mom has it very bad, and also gets a pounding heart, but has no real heart problems. When I was a bit younger (15 or so), I saw a cardiologist & had all the tests done, and it came back fine. Also last year I went to the doctor for it, but all she did was listen to my heart w/the stethoscope, and said she heard no murmur or any signs of an arrhythmia, and that it was just anxiety. She said just talking to me that she senses that I can quite high strung & anxious. At work when I am busy, it’s usually 100% fine. When I am home & have no plans to do anything, it’s usually fine. It seems like it happens when I am out doing things, or have plans to do things mostly. And although this isn’t a good thing, I notice it normally doesn’t happen at all when i’m drinking (unless it;s rum & coke- my heart pounds when I drink that), but If I drink beer, it’s usually fine. Any advice or insight besides saying to get a 2nd opinion would be very helpful!!!
For the record, I do not get chest pain with these symptoms. So I guess that’s kinda good.
