Open Question: A poem about heartbreak…what do you think?

July 25th, 2010 | by admin | Open Question: A poem about heartbreak…what do you think?
here’s a poem about heartbreak I wrote. its based on my experience, and it made the majority of my friends cry xD
here it is..
You know your in love when you think about that person all the time. You see a picture of them, and you feel your heart melt as you gaze at their features.
When your heart beats faster when you see them, and when you value every second spent together. When you know you want to spend the rest of your life with him, when you wonder what your children will look like.
When you go out of your way to make them smile, when you know you will do anything for them, when you feel happy because they are smiling.
When you dream of them continuously night after night. When you actually make an effort to have their family approve of you, when you stalk every aspect of their facebook profile. When you listen to the music they like, and look up their ex’s.
When you panic when thinking of life without them. When you wake up halfway through the night to see if they have called. When you look in the mirror and smile at yourself, because he says he likes how you look.
When your blood boils with rage when another girl flirts with them. When he starts to see this girl more, and you start to worry. When he starts talking about her constantly, and you start to get scared. When you start to dream of them together, and you wake up with a lake of salty tears saturating your pillow.
When the relationship starts to crumble for no apparent reason and you can’t see what your doing wrong.
When he finally admits he might have feelings for this new girl, and you feel your heart twist and crack and shatter into a thousand pieces and your swimming in an ocean of disbelief; the feeling overflowing and drowing you, surrounding you, and you can’t escape, you can’t believe it, and you can’t forget what he has just said, when you really thought he loved you and you alone, and you had planned your future life to every intricate detail.
When you break up, and you just can’t believe what has happened, and it doesn’t feel right, and all you can think of is him, and everything about him, and you blink several times, hoping it is all a terrible nightmare and that you will wake up any second.
You feel dependant on him, and now he’s gone you just don’t know what to do; and you can’t believe he has betrayed you like this.
When, three months on, and you’ve had new boyfriends, but you still think of him every night, you relive your memories shared with him, you’ve deleted all your photos but you still see him clearly in your head.
When you spend hours looking through your calendars, at each and every one of the seventeen months you we were him.
When your friends all say that your better off without him and you murmur an agreement, but your still thinking how you wish things could go back to how they were;
a song by their favourite band comes on the radio and you have to turn it off, or you see a picture of him and the girl that ruined it, and you start to cry, every tear a painful drop of emotion, and your tear-filled eyes gaze at a friend in a cry for help.
When you feel trapped in this feeling of agony and anguish; but all you can do is try to forget, to let go, to hope that time will heal the pain, to pretend that you’ll be truely happy again….
