Open Question: can an “innocent heart murmur” disappear & then come back?
When my son was born he had a heart murmur that did not go within the 1st 24 hours as the normal ones would.
He was discharged from hospital when he was 8 days old after recovering from an unrelated infection but the murmur was still present.
It was feint but he was given an appointment to be checked again at 3 months.
By then the Murmur could not be detected so he was discharged from that clinic and we were told it was an innocent murmur (i.e. there were no health implications).
He was seen by a pediatrician this week (on an unrelated matter) and the murmur has returned so he now has to go and see a specialist for further investigations, when the ‘innocent murmur’ was gone, we weren’t told it could return, does anyone know if they can?
lala~leigh, I am pretty sure the investigations will be extensive, he’s had an ECG and is having an ultrasound as well as other investigations at a specialist heart hospital in London.
