Open Question: Does the beginning of my book catch your attention? Granted that a lot of the monologue isn’t there?
Everyday seems to run together, meaningless, packed full of routines. A habitual life that has been determined by choices one has had to make in order to thrive as a working part of a civilized social order. An existence inherited genetically. I feel like we have been programmed to think and act like those who came before us. How does one determine what defines them in life?I believe that I?m my own person, but, in a world that has 6 billion people roaming it, the odds of being matchless are significantly against me. A scary realization, when you begin to understand that the world doesn?t revolve around you; you simply revolve around the world.
Retrospectively speaking, all you really have is a fingerprint to separate you from someone else; uniquely yours in life, the tips of your fingers will never have a twin. Everything else is an evolutionary characteristic and I truly detested that with all my heart. I wanted to live in a world where I could help define future generations, a pioneer if you will. Discovering new foreign lands, cultures, and world wonders, using my fingerprint to make a mark in this world, despite the fact that I arrived a little late to the party. I live in a world that has little left to be discovered. All my life I have felt this longing to stand out in a crowd, little did I know it now, but in two days time my outlook on life would be forever altered. My name is Gideon Duprae and this is my story?
?Gideon! It?s time for breakfast! You don?t want to be late for that job interview!?
?Mom I know that you can?t help those motherly urges, but I?m a grown man! And it?s not an interview, it?s a meeting. I?m trying to sell a new product. I don?t expect you to understand my business and I really do enjoy staying over at the house when I visit but please treat me as an equal. I?m not a little kid anymore.?
?I know honey but to me you will always be my little boy, I can?t help it. Now sit down and eat these pancakes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day you know.?
?Yes Ma?am I know. You have only told me that every day of my life?? I murmured under my breath as I took my first bite of food, so that she wouldn?t quite understand what I said.
?What was that honey??
?Pancakes are really good mom, really good.?
?That?s what I thought.?She said with a slight smile on her face. ?Now hurry up or you really will be late for that interview. What did you say was the position you are applying for again??
?Again?Mom you know I have a job and that I?m here trying to push a new product. You know I work for a weapons manufacturing company mom. I know you hate the fact that I build weapons but I only do it for the greater good, and you know that as well. Your son is serving his country and I thought you would be proud of that. Dad was??
There was a brief moment of silence before she reacted .
?Oh Gideon?you know I?m proud of you no matter what. I just don?t understand why you couldn?t just join green peace or something??
?I get paid doing this mom; I do like supporting myself you know. I?m sorry we have to continue this conversation later; I really do need to hit the road now.?

?Thanks mom, I will call you after. Tell Vivian that I want to see her before I leave.?
?Gideon you know your sister isn?t avoiding you, she?s just young and doesn?t really understand the importance of family yet. You were the same way at that age.?
?I know mom, I have to go but try and get her over here for dinner tonight. I don?t know when I will be able to come out this way again.?
