Open Question: How can I make my 10 month old Maltese puppy gain weight in a healthy way?
I have a 10 month old Maltese puppy named Olive. She is a very small picky eater. When I first got her at 5 weeks old I fed her soft foods. After a few weeks I weened her to Eukanuba. At first she ate it fine but then started throwing up a lot every time after she ate, the vet recommended trying different foods. I am currently feeding her “Just A Wee Bit” by Solid Gold. She loves it and eats about 1/2 a cup to a cup a day as directed on the bag for her size with no problems. I have tried feeding her canned food again but she doesn’t like it. She is relatively small for a Maltese compared to her siblings and others I have seen. She is barely at 4 pounds. She doesn’t look unhealthy but when you pet her you can feel her spine and ribs. She loves to lounge and sleep and acts more like a hamster than a dog.
Basically my question is, is there anything I can feed her that she may actually eat that will make her gain some healthy weight?
My only worry is that when she was 7 months old she was diagnosed with a heart murmur by 2 different Veterinarians. Level 4 out of 6. I don’t want to feed her anything that would make it worse and I don’t feed her any human food, the Vet directed me not to. Would the heart murmur be the cause of her small frame? I worry for my baby.
But yeah so if anyone can help me fatten Olive up that would be awesome!
