Open Question: Grain-free food for cats?
We all know to not feed corn, wheat, or soy to your cat or dog.
These three grains can cause:
Fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and possibly death.
But what about the rest? Why NO grains, are there any safe ones at all? I know cats cannot digest them properly, but we in fact don’t digest most greens well either.
Does one then need just meat and vitamins and minerals in cat food? A small % of fat? Plus taurine, and preservatives to be used should be vitamin C and E?

Open Question: What are possible issues with a baby who’s mommy smoked during pregnancy?
My friend just had her 2nd baby. She smoked throughout the pregnancy. She smoked occasionally during her first pregnancy as well, but not as much. Her first son was almost 9 pounds, and has so far been very healthy. (He’s almost 2.) This new baby was tiny - only 6 1/2 pounds - and has so many issues already. He has breathing issues (underdeveloped trachea and a few other things - medical terms that I’m unsure of), severe acid reflux, and a heart murmur. He has already spent a few days in the hospital. He’s a month old. He’s on all sorts of meds, including inhalers, and is going to have issues for the first few years of his life. Then he should outgrow them, the doctors say. Anyway… do you think this could have been caused by the smoking, or is it just a coincidence? I would never say it to my friend, but it just makes me worry. I feel terrible for the baby, and for my friend. I’m sure she’s thinking the same things, and must feel awful about it.
