Open Question: Have you had ASD/heart murmur repair as an adult? How do you feel?
My cardiologist tells me that I need to have my atrial septal heart defect fixed. I’ve had this heart murmur all my life and I knew that it slowed me down. I wasn’t unhealthy, but I couldn’t keep up with the other kids. I was always the little one in the back yelling, “Hey, wait for me!.” I never considered it serious, but it turns out that it was and should have been repaired long ago. Now I’m 50 years old and I have had various docs over the years mention in passing that I ought to “have that checked out.” Of course I never did since I didn’t have insurance. Anyway, over the years my ability to exercise has deteriorated and I tire easily in general. I’ve always gotten dizzy easily, but that’s gotten a lot worse in the last year. I just assumed it was part of aging and being overweight and past smoking and the dizzy thing was an ear issue. But now this. I’ve been searching the net for awhile but I haven’t found any accounts of adults reporting on how they feel after having this procedure. It is usually done in children. Can anybody share their experience with me or point me to some place to find this info?

Open Question: How can I get involved to work with children with cancer/along these lines?
I have always had a heavy heart when it comes to children with cancer and like diseases that are fatal. I am currently going to college for my associates degree in business that I will be receiving soon. Before going any further in my degree I have officially decided working with sick children is in my highest interest. Not the nurse part necessarily but doing something to help and change lives. Is there a career to help do this besides medical fields? Make a Wish foundation amazes me in the things that they do and to work for something like that would be a dream. I am hoping somebody can help me step in the right direction of where to go and maybe how to further my degree in helping me win this field.
