Open Question: who can solve this problem?
I have read ” who get the heart?” and I cannot solve the problem. Can you help me?
Read:
You are members of the heart transplant surgery team at a university hospital in Washington, D.C. At the moment you have six patients who desperately need a transplant, if they are to have any chance of living. All six patients are classified as “critically ill,” and could die at any time.
You have just received the news that the heart of a 16-year-old boy, who was killed in an auto accident, has become available for transplantation. Speed is extremely important as you decide which of the following patients is to receive the heart: not only might one of the patients die, but also the donor heart will soon begin to deteriorate.
The age and sex of the donor has no relationship to the age and sex of the recipient. In other words, the heart of the 16-year-old would work well in a 50-year-old woman.
Decide:
1. Peter Jacoben, male, age 42. His family has a history of heart disease. He has aldready had one heart transplant operation. Since his body rejected that heart. He has been kept alive by an artifical heart. Never married
2. Elena Rodriguez, female, age 23. She grows up in the slums of NY. Unemployed and on welfare. She has 4 children(ages 8, 6, 5, 1)
3. Franklin Johns, male, age 34. He works for U.S government as a researcher for th Central Intelligence Agency. He is being kept alive on a heart-lung machine. He is unmarried.
4. Carlos Wahnon, male, age 12. Carlos is a student . He is also being kept alive on a heart-lung machine.
5. Amegneza Edorh, female, age 57. She has been confined to bed for the past five months with steadily deteriorating health.
6. Alicia Fagan, female, age 27. Her heart problems is similarly affected thought recent seem to have a genetic basis in as much as her twin sister. Unmarried
7. Galia Feinstein, female, age 27. She is Ms Fagan’s twin sister. Her condition differs from that of her sister in that her kidneys have not been affected.
