Open Question: help! my 6 month old cocker spaniel has a heart murmur but i want to get her spayed, but there’s a risk!?
she went for a heart scan today and the vet didn’t carry out the spaying as he wanted to make my aware of the risks before giving her a general anesthetic. as well as her murmur, the valves of her heart are quite narrow and it beats differently so the vet said there is a ’small’ possibility that she might not come through the operation. however there is a risk of her developing other problems such as infections and tumours later in life if she ‘doesn’t’ get spayed and then she would have to get a general anesthetic anyway!. don’t know whether to risk it now or risk her get something later if she doesn’t get spayed. i have a male golden retriever who is 17 months. has anyone else had this problem??
