Open Question: PLEASE HELP! Anyone with experience with a small dog with a heart murmur and persistent cough?
I recently adopted a middle aged tea cut chihuahua from the shelter; I took him to the vet the day I adopted him and the vet informed me that he was extremely underweight (Which is now being taken care of) and he was also a little dehydrated, but those things are easy fixes. The thing that scared me is when the vet informed me that Todd (This is what I named him) had a heart murmur…the vet said he didn’t think it was a serious issue at the moment, but may need to be treated later on in the future. Well, I took him home and I’ve noticed he seems to be coughing a lot, but mainly only at night…. That is the weird thing. He has been having these terrible coughing spells where he acts as though he’s going to throw up, but doesn’t. Is this due to the heart murmur or could it be kennel cough? The vet never mentioned anything about kennel cough, however…. But still…. I’m trying really hard not to stress myself out about this but to be honest I am extremely worried for my little baby. I plan on taking him to a vet as soon as I get the money from my next pay check, but what can I do in the mean time? Does anyone have any advice?
I am especially paranoid because my last little angel passed due to a heart problem as well, and he was everything to me. I did everything I possibly could in my power to try and save him (so did the vets), but sadly, it was all to no avail. He is in heaven now…but I just don’t want history to repeat itself…you know? So PLEASE help if you can.
P.S. Are there any vets out there for the poor?

Voting Question: trying to lose weight and get in shape this semester?
i am a 20 year old male. Im 6 ft 1 in tall and weigh aproximately 210 lbs. i have had heart surgery twice, once when i was 2 and again when i was 12 to replace the aorta valve, and i also have an internal defibulator/pacemaker because i have suffered from a heart arythmia episode. i am looking to getting into shape this semester. my goal is to drop down to around 180 lbs and be in good shape. i have begun a jogging/walking routine of 2.9 miles each morning. i am not really dieting so much as just watching not to eat junk food and trying to cut out snacking during the day and drinking alot of water. Does anyone have any tips as to possible easy diet plans and tips to get into good enough shape to actually run/jog the miles along with really any health tips in general. i know there is lots on the internet but they really are more about quick soloutions that ive found or for people more in shape than i am looking to get ripped. all answers/comments are appriciated and i realize alot of people wont know much about the heart condition so if you don’t know how to specifically tailor your answer to it don’t worry and just answer based on other information. it really hasn’t slowed me down so far.
