Open Question: I recieved a “C” for the first semester of P.E., willl that affect my chances of getting into a U.C. campus?
That grade (of which I am totally ashamed of) was earned just this past school year (my sophomore year of high school) and was earned due to well…life. You see my little brother, only 11 years of age, had to be put on life support because of a devastating disease. It was literally a life or death situation for him, and because of him and his phantomous condition my grades suffered, for my mind was always with him. But I digress, now I am normally an above average student. With grades ranging from B’s (very few) and many A’s, to a few A ’s. But I ALWAYS earn A’s in P.E and am always the most active and willing in P.E. I had P.E. as a first Period. I chose to have P.E. as a first period because that would open up space for an extra class in my schedule. Our school’s schedule operates with a 4×4 routine. Meaning we have our fist block (first 3 classes) on one day, and our other block (last 3 classes) the next day, every block meeting every other day. But since I chose to have a first period (P.E.), I would have P.E. EVEYDAY! I am noting this only because I want to emphasize on how disastrous it would be to be absent from a first period class I have every day versus the rest of my classes I have on my every other day block schedule. Back to the topic, Now for the first quarter of the year I had earned an A in P.E. (keep in mind this is before my brother got sick)along with A?s in almost all my other classes (I had earned a B in an advanced math class) and for the second quarter I had earned an F in P.E. (sigh..it hurts to even type that…I had earned an F). Now it was during the beginning of the second quarter that my brother’s life took a turn for the worst, along with my grades. Meaning I missed a lot of school and whenever I actually was in school I was miserable and lost. That lead to me doing very poorly. By the time second quarter progress reports came around I saw grades and comments I had never seen before in my life. D?s and F?s along with comments like ?attendance affecting grade? and ?achieving below ability?. I was so worried about the further amount of stress and worry my parents would obtain that I decided not to show them my progress report and hide it away. I knew they had enough worry going on in their lives. Prior to the actual 2nd quarter report cards coming out I was missing more and more in school and was completely perplexed. It was toward the end of the second quarter, and my parents received my 2nd quarter report card and they were completely shocked at the grades they saw with the same comments as before (?attendance affecting grade? and ?achieving below ability?)?.but they knew the cause of me receiving the grades that I did. They knew that my brother and what was going on with him played a big part on my mind, and with that they told me I was not to see my brother again for a while and that I would have to focus all my attention to school. And with them saying that I decided to take action once and for all?but the very next day on the way to school?my mother, little sister, and I were involved in a car accident. They had minor cuts but I had received a dislocated rib and after a one day stay at the hospital I had been told by my doctor not to perform physical activity in P.E. for a while. He had also given my a P.E. excusal slip of which I gave to my P.E. teacher and with that I thought I would use the normal time I spent in P.E. to spend time making up tests and what not in my academic classes (classes I thought really meant something in your record). So with that I had managed to elevate my D?s and F?s to A?s, but at the expense of missing P.E. but I had just thought my excusal form would justify that. Again, once second quarter report cards came out I had received an F in P.E. which averaged to a C for the first semester. Now that was a definite eye opener! For when I spoke with my P.E. teacher in regards to the grade, she said that even though I had the P.E. excusal form I would still need to attend the class each day, every day. Scared of the C I had earned in P.E. as the FIRST SEMESTER grade, I had taken her words to heart and worked to earn an A for both the third and fourth quarters and thankfully earned an A for the second semester. WOW! This is far longer than I had wanted/expected it to be! All in all, without going into even more details on how the P.E. teacher was really unfair ( for she said I could go out and make up work in other classes as long as I turn in thesis reports which I had turned in to her every week) etc. Can I still get into a U.C. campus in spite of the C I had earned in P.E. for the first semester of this past school year? Please help preferably from U.C. experts/Students of U.C. campuses, I am very worried about this grade.
P.S.:
* I go to a high school in California
* I have already explained myself to the school counselor and Vice principal and although they both agreed with me, they said they couldn?t do anything about it for the teacher?s word is final.
* WTD 10-12 GPA is 3.6700
* Total WTD GPA is 3.7100
Thanks in advance (your answer/advise truly means a lot) to all who answer.
