Open Question: Introducing my new kitten with my old cat?

I have a 5 year old cat who is de-clawed.
I work at a pet store and we had a 3 month old kitten that has a heart problem, i think its a heart murmur, therefore it can not be sold. It was going to be put to sleep tomorrow unless someone from work wanted it for free. So I took it and trying to see if he will be okay with my cat.
I introduced them by putting the kitten next to my cat. the kitten did not do anything at all but my cat hissed and when I put the kitten very close he tried to claw him but he has no claws. My cat does not seem happy with the new cat.
Am I playing with fire trying to keep both cats or will they eventually be okay with one another? Would it be okay to leave them unsupervised or should I keep an eye on them both for now?
