Open Question: Was it wrong for me to break up with my boyfriend because of this?
I recently broke up with my boyfriend of over a year. The thing is, I work very hard to stay in shape and I feel like I deserve a guy who does the same. I think it’s important to keep healthy… and honestly, if he were at his current weight but genuinely trying to lose it, working out occasionally, picking up a vegetable every now and then, eating only when hungry, resisting junk, I would totally stay with him. But he’s not! He eats a terrible diet and never works out. I work out every day, I limit myself to 200 calories of junk food once per week, I never eat unless I’m hungry, and I almost always pick something healthy. Guys hit on me all the time and it’s not like I don’t work hard for it. I’m not saying I need some super in shape guy but at least someone who takes care of himself, right? And he keeps saying that he’ll start eating healthier next week or next month, but he never does. On this path he’s ruining his health and if I ever did get married to him and have kids with him how would I explain daddy’s heart attacks? I don’t want to be a widow. Do you think it’s shallow of me to break up with him because of his weight? I just couldn’t bare to lose him to some terrible disease just because he didn’t take care of himself. I sat down and talked to him about it and he got really upset and basically said “It’s dumb if you’re breaking up with me because I eat junk food” but it’s much deeper than that…
sorry I know that’s a lot to read but please… do you think I’m in the wrong?
