Open Question: its an addiction, not a disease?
“a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment.”
I think that this dictionary definition pretty much sums up that question. I have herd different interpretations of this quote, but I think when it comes down to it you can tell that alcoholism is not a ?disease?. There is no doubt that alcohol is addictive, when abused, and that you can have an addiction to alcohol. I don?t think anyone that hasn?t had experience with being an alcoholic, or having lived with one can begin to understand the dependence that someone can have towards this substance. Its hard to deal with, and unfair to those who inherit this jean. But that?s the thing, it is a jean, you can be born with it and make a CHOICE to use the substance in moderation, or not at all. Sure It can offset other mental disorders, such as bipolar disease, and liver failure, but in the end one drink will not kill someone who has the will power to not have another one. One drink alone does not ruin your family or get you fired. Those who have a dependence may not ever be able to drink without offsetting there addiction, but who other then yourself tells you to drink? It?s a bit na
