Open Question: Does anyone have a pet or had a pet with congestive heart failure?
My dog is 13years old, she’s been in the family since she was a tiny puppy. She’s had a heart murmur for a couple of years now. Lately shes been throwing up, and panting a lot. My mom and I took her to the vet today, and we found out that her heart is enlarged. Not only is her heart going to keep growing but it has flipped backwards. She has fluid in her lungs. The doctor says he has never seen anything like the condition shes in. I was in tears, and still am. The doctor gives her 6months to live. Shes on medication now to make her comfortable.
How do you put your pet down, who has been part of your family forever, I call my dog my sister, I don’t think I could ever live knowing I ended my dogs life. My mom says that she doesn’t want her to be uncomfortable and I understand that. The other option is giving her medication, making her comfortable, and letting her live till her heart gives out, but to me that just seems unfair to her to let her be in pain. Either way the decision is going to be painful, and most of all knowing at some point in time my dog won’t be here physically.
I love my dog so much, and it kills me to know she’s suffering and she’s dying. I feel so sick, I don’t even have an appetite. I’ve had previous dogs but I’ve grown up with the dog I have now, its really hard for me. I’m sure it would be for anyone else.
