Open Question: Please could you help me understand diabetes?
My new boyfriend has diabetes. I understand that there are two types, 1 and 2 although I do not know which he has. He injects insulin when required. My aunt also has diabetes and controls it with injected insulin and will not intake any sugar. She is now 80, and although has eye problems, is otherwise healthy. However, my boyfriend does not avoid sugar, and will eat chocolate, cake and drinks alcohol. Is this him being careless or does the disease affect people in different ways?
I would also be grateful to know if it affects life expectancy. He does also have a heart murmur which I am sure will make him more vulnerable. Much appreciated, thank you.
