Open Question: Does this interest you?
Please tell me if you like this prologue and if it’s written well.
The woman clutched the bundle in her arms, squinting in the darkness of the night. She must run, she must flee this world, and protect the little bundle with her life. With each progressing step, her heart ached as she thought of all that she left behind. Perhaps this escape was foolish, perhaps she was behaving in a naive fashion.
Her eyes traveled to the infant resting in her strong, protective arms, the little child born only a few weeks ago. Perhaps it was best for the child to remain in this world.
?No,? the woman murmured, gazing at the infant with motherly love. ?I shall protect you, little one.?
The woman turned her head as she heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Had someone witnessed her escape? Would he apprehend her and demand to release the child? She surveyed her surroundings to learn that it was not footsteps she had heard, but her imagination, her fear of being discovered.
She tucked the blanket around the child, clasped her money in her hand, and fled into the darkness, into the unknown.
