Open Question: Read my short story?!?
THE COLAPSE OF SEOUL
I looked up into the lens of the camera.
It stared back; the dark slide of glass was somewhat eyrie.
My heart beat was racing.
Thump, thump, thump.
I was on Hyper.T.V.
I was on the only station available to Seoul Megacity.
A green light flashed. I was on. Live.
I began reading from the telecom in front of me.
?We begin this daily update with some rather tragic news. Cameron Moon, famous for his role in movies like ?Under the Smoke Cloud? and ?By the light of the lava? has died in a tragic accident. Most thought Moon would lose his life to Swellings Disease or Cardiac Breath loss. No, Moon did not die of a disease. This morning at eleven o?clock, thieves broke into Moon?s house in Circle boundary One, to steal selfishly for themselves?.
I read the line with disgust. They were in fact, simple do good only men, stealing food to feed their families who were dying of starvation.
We had been briefed on the situation and told how we would be changing the story to paint Moon as the hero, so more people would watch his movies, making more money for the corrupt Government.
?Moon, attempted to persuade them to stop and think about what they were doing, but they took his life with a shotgun?.
Moon had actually come out with a shotgun and killed one of the men. The others tried to stop him and he was shot in the chest.
?Coming up next, we have the latest reports on the recent seismic activity in the North?.
I collapsed onto the dusty couch. It had been two hours since I had finished the broadcast, and I was puffed. I had had to run home as soon as it was over. A quake had rattled the First wall meaning there could be gang entry. Seoul Megacity was divided into numerous circles. On the outside lived the poor, this was followed by the vast circle of Inchon Hospital. After this was a couple more miles of slums, then the massive, eight kilometres thick wall that protected Circle Boundary Zero. Here is where the educated, like me live. Then, there is another, thinner and smaller wall that protects Circle Boundary One, where celebrities live. This is also where the Hyper.T.V station is located. The boundaries keep going in; and the people get richer, until you reach Circle Boundary Ten, which is a massive palace known as Chongju Royal Establishment.
The quake may have damaged the wall, letting gangs through.
Luckily, I found out arriving home, the only gang that had tried to get through the wall was gunned down by Border Police.
I looked around the shack I called home. The things I had would be considered a luxury to the people living in the slums. Most people lived in a box made of four sheets of metal. I lived in a large brick walled house with three whole rooms.
The small radio on the houses only table blared into life.
?Seri…smic?activity…arned?evac?ongju?estab?.as?.statement?
I looked at the radio.
The warning station was always clear. In the twenty-three years I had been listening to it, not once had it been distorted.
This was due to the fact that its broadcast towers were connected to a satellite above the Coal Clouds, the only one up there in fact.
The Emergency Broadcast Channel, or EBC, always ran to provide people with 24/7 news on seismic activity.
I went to the radio pushed the small black gumdrop button.
Channel 83, animals, static.
Channel 102, available foods, static.
Channel 54, economy, static.
Not one station had a signal.
Usually, even the stations that just had crappy little homemade towers gave some sort of clear message.
What was going on?
I walked outside and looked into the eternally black sky.
The Coal cloud, as it?s called, is like an enormous black stain, spreading itself across the sky.
It?s still the same dark black it?s always been.
What? In the sky above, I could see tiny little red dots.
I rush inside; remembering when the volcano called Akashi had popped up on the east side of Seoul megacity.
It had rained fire rocks for two years.
Luckily, because I was on the west side, I hadn?t had to worry about it.
The volcano was constantly erupting, but it didn?t matter because all that came out now was lava.
I wondered, had it started to erupt again.
No, impossible for it to be Akashi, the rocks were too visible to me.
It must be Chonan, the massive super volcano that ran dry a few years ago.
It must be erupting again.
I pushed the buttons on the radio again.
I stopped on the EBC?s station.
?End?evacu?death??
Then there was nothing. Silence from the radio.
I hurried outside again.
Now I could see them, enormous rocks, burning as bright as the Lava Rivers, hurtling to the ground.
One hit the Chongju Royal Establishment?s main palace.
I watched, stunned and scared, as it collapsed in on itself.
The palace was enormous, big enough that I could see it from 1000km away.
Then the ground shook.
Earthquakes were normal, but this one wasn?t.
It shook and shook.
It wasn?t stopping.
I made my way down the street.
Mor
More lava bombs crashed into the taller skyscrapers.
They seemed to be getting closer. It was impossible, that this could happen.
A loud ear splitting explosion distracted my train of thought.
I looked toward Circle Boundary Ten. All I could see was a large bright red aura, shooting up from where Chongju Royal Establishment once stood.
I had only ever seen something like that once before.
Fourteen years ago when Akashi had came up from under the ground, a large red light had burst into the sky, illuminating the city.
It was the new bright lava seeping out.
I put the pieces of the puzzle together.
A volcano had popped up in the centre of Seoul Megacity.
Looking back towards the centre of the city, I could see it now, an enormous volcano rising up.
I started to run.
I made my way through the streets towards the large boundary wall.
I arrived at the wall fifteen minutes later.
Pushing my way through security to the Hyperlink train station I could see the panic on people?
I listened to the sounds above the screaming.
?The Royal Family were killed when a large piece of marble fell from the…?
I hopped on the bright train.
It zoomed along the tracks.
