Open Question: Wait wait wait… WTF?!?

February 5th, 2009 | by admin | Open Question: I put my dog to sleep yesturday, the guilt is so bad, could he have made it?
I had a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 4 lb Pomeranian, he was a beaver color and loved soo much, late Monday night he was playing and drinking more water than normal but I didn’t think much of it, I thought it was just from playing too much, I got him in his bed and I layed down, about 20 minutes later I got up to check on my kids when I heard him breathing slow and heavy, he was almost lifeless, his front left leg was stiff, the rest of him was very limp, as if he was dead already, when I called his name he would try to focus so hard, I was worried it could be hypoglycemia, even though he has food out at all times, so I gave him karo syrup, I then rushed him into the emergency Vet, at times he would stop breathing, I would rub him and he would start gasping again, my Vet first gave him a sugar test and he was not hypoglycemic, it was actually a little high because of the syrup, she listened to his lungs and heart, she said his heart had a very bad murmur, but this was never dectected before? Could it just happen like that? His lungs were filled with water and he was drowning to death, it began coming out of his nose, she said she believed he had a torn tendon in his heart that was filling his lungs with fluid, and removing the fluid wouldn’t work as it would come right back, he was suffering I know that, but what if he could’ve made it back to me?? Why did I end his life, I wish so bad I hadn’t, I miss him sooo much! Does this make sense to anyone?? Has anyone heard of this happening before? I didn’t want him to suffer, but I can’t help but wonder if he could still be here with me, I feel like I betrayed him, and killed him myself! No one I know has heard of this, could my vet have been wrong??
