Open Question: Considering joining the miltary?
I’m kind of at my wits end here. I have been “between jobs” since July 2007. I had some major family events happen last year. My only brother was kia in Iraq and then the following month my grandfather passed. I also brought in a new family member. I graduated from university. I have a degree now but no job. I totally enjoy being at home with my son but I’d love to be out there working again. I’m mostly looking at state and federal jobs..but I’m also considering joining some branch of the military. Probably the Army though.
I’m wondering about dis qualifiers though. I’m a single 26 year old mother of one almost 1 year old boy. I am heavily tattooed. I have a slightly visible though tiny one on the back of my neck that can usually be covered by a collar. All are in good taste..nothing inappropriate. I also have mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation. It’s a mild heart murmur that doesn’t cause me any problems. Was also wondering since my brother was kia if that would be a dis qualifier too or not recommended. Are there any other girls my age in somewhat similar situations that are considering joining the military? I’d really like to serve my county. Also..it may sound weird..but I kind of want to finish what my brother started. Losing my brother was the worst thing that has ever or will ever happen to me but he inspired me in more ways than one. IF you have any input at all I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your help!!!!
Another thing I forgot to mention in my post. My family doesn’t know anything about the fact that I’m considering this. I’m sure this would just about bowl each and every one of them over because of what happened to my brother. If this was something I really wanted to do and made my mind up about it I’d go right on and do it. How would I go about bringing this up to my family and my son’s father if I did enlist in some branch of the military? I would most definately encounter resistance with this!
