Open Question: Psychiatric Nurses qualified to care for medical illnesses?
Is it safe or even legal for someone with a serious Disease in the UK(such as heart disease or MS) to be in an NHS Psychiatric ward with Psychiatric nurses only - instead of RGN (Staff Nurses)?
I was told the other day that Psychiatric Nurses are ‘Nurses’ just like a ‘normal’ staff Nurses and are qualified to care for people who aren’t mentally ill.
But looking into this, it seems Psychiatric nurses don’t in fact do the same course as Adult nurses at University after all.
Is this correct?
Thank you.
