Open Question: What is this pain in my chest?

March 8th, 2010 Voting Question: B12/Lipo shots? Do they work? Where can I get them?
I’m 17 years old, 5′4″ and 160 lbs. I’m on a diet/exercising regularly and my goal is 120-125 lbs, but I’m only losing 5-10 lbs/month and I would like to speed up the results if possible. I’ve seen advertisements at weight loss clinics that claim you can lose up to 20 lbs/month, but upon visiting a medical weight loss clinic, all they had to offer were reduced calorie diets and wanted me to buy their pre-made shakes/mealbars and meet regularly (way too expensive).
I’ve been hearing a lot about B12 and Lipo shots, but I’m skeptical. First of all, does anyone have experience taking these and keeping the weight off afterward? Did you take B12 shots or Lipo ones (or pills?), or both? How often? What kind of results did you see?
From the research I’ve found, a lot of people claim to be losing weight, but I’ve also found some scary side effects:
according to this website: http://www.phentermine.com/forum/my-experience-phentermine/74893-just-share-not-scare-lipo-shots-adenosine.html
“the lipo shots are adenosin monophosphate. And i am actually refusing them from my weight loss doc.
I have spoke to my pharma, my doc, and a chemist at my job and a few other whacky scientist at my job. And babynurse i was gonna post this in your other thread about your weight loss stall/gain.
Adenosine is give to cancer patients to spead up the rate of cell change to create new and healthy cells. But it also speeds up everything else (hence the weight loss).
Now here comes the bad part….
1. if injected the wrong way, to fast, or to much can cause heart arythmia (sp)
2. Speeding up organs natural production or disposal can cause organ damage, improprer function, or failure (hence the insta diareha after the fat)
3. Once you stop the shots, the generated cells will die off quicker as they were, premature in a way. Your organs will have difficulty getting back on track without the speed and may not function properly.
4. The “extra” weight is going to bounce right back when stopping or delaying your shots.”
anyone know about this/have experience with these side effects?
It seems like if this were really such a huge risk they wouldn’t have prescriptions where you can give yourself the injections, which, if it is safe, is what I am looking for (so as to avoid costly visits to the doctor).

Open Question: Why do companies like Becel margarine support heart health for women, but not men?
If you’re in Canada (maybe other countries too) and go to youtube.com, you might see an ad saying “help make women’s heart disease history”. I think this means the company, Becel, which makes margarine, donates money for health care research for women. But why do they discriminate against men? You could say it’s because women buy most of their margarine, but do women look at the ad and think “yay! All that money is helping to cure me” without thinking about their male relatives and friends?
Also why do you hear about breast cancer drives for women only, even though men sometimes die of the disease?
I thought heart disease was the #1 killer of everybody? And men are about twice as likely to die of a heart attack:
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4478
Don’t women shop for their husbands too? Do they care if hubby dies of a heart attack, or only themselves?

Open Question: I need advice on an ethics essay.How would you decide as a utilitarian?
Suppose…
Congress has appropriated $100 million dollars to put toward medical research. This money can go for any medical research projects cancer, AIDS, neurology, Alzheimer’s, stem cell research, heart disease, mental health, etc.
In allocating resources to such research projects, Congress often uses a utilitarian calculus to decide. Analyze this very difficult decision Congress has to make from the perspective of a utilitarian. You can allocate $10m to 10 different research programs, or $100m to just one.
I am thinking that as a utilitarian they would research which medical condition has the highest mortality and also has the highest number of people suffering or dying from it and then they would use most of the money to go to that one illness’s research because that would ultimately help the most amount of people with happiness.
Then I am torn. and part of me thinks that they would give to 10 different research cases because that would end up affecting the most people and giving the most people pleasure over pain
Give me some advice on which way to go with this paper.
Thanks:)

Open Question: is it wrong of me to be mad at my boyfriend for this?
I was born with heart disease due to both of my parents smoking. When I was old enough to realize that is what contributed to my disease, ive grown to hate cigarettes. I never smoked one in my life. My boyfriend, who once smoked often, started doing it again. Not around me or anything, but does because it helps him “when he stresses”. It really upsets me because how can someone who loves me, knows what caused this disease i have, smoke? How do i explain this to him. Is this stupid that I am so mad about it?

Open Question: Need Expert Proofreading…!?

March 6th, 2010 Open Question: Can you please help me improve this story?
I wrote a short story, and i really need to improve it. I really want it to be good. Can you please help me out?
Here is the story:
The faint smell of freesia flowers never smelled so good. I could smell it with every deep breath I took; it meant she was near. My eyes, to nervous to open in case her smell disappears, in case she disappears, braved it anyway. And there she was, right in front of me, in her wedding dress. I always loved the way her loose curls softened her face. She had a rose in her hair, above her ear, just as she did on our wedding night. As her eyes, looking exactly like they did 20 years ago, smiled at me, and her sweet lips moved forward to kiss me, my mind went back to our wedding night, the beginning of the rest of our lives together. To me, she looked just as she did that night. I knew she wanted me to go back there.
?Do you remember that night?? She softly whispered with a curious smile on her face.
?How could I forget? 7th of June, 1990?
?No not the date. The night it self.?
I could barely hear her voice, but that didn?t matter. Hearing it at all has kept me going these past few days.
?It was raining outside. You know how much I loved the summer rain.? She murmured breathlessly.
?That was the reason you chose the date. You wanted the rain. Lucky it wasn?t too cold?
She laughed, ?Can you imagine? I?d have to walk down the aisle with a jacket on. The marquee only kept us from getting wet, it wouldn?t keep us warm?
?If you had it your way, there would be no marquee at all.?
?Where?s the fun in it raining if we don?t get wet??
?I don?t think the guests would have seen it the same way. It was one of the things only I understood about you.?
It felt good to be talking with her like we did, before everything changed. She had a glow about her; almost shimmering in the soft light coming in from the outside. Looking up at her from my chair I could almost see an illuminated ring above her. The window rattled and a flurry of wind blew the freesia scent away from me. I breathed in deeper.
?It?s what got me to be this way. But there?s just something about being washed by water from the heavens that made me feel cleansed somehow, it?s a wonderful feeling. And me getting sick from it, I needed to suffer.?
?Honey?please believe me when I tell you that you are not marred. I know you regret what you did, and it took you some time to find God, but He forgives you. He does, He really does. You are a different person then you were 28 years ago. I could never handle how you thought you deserved sufferance, but no one could make you think otherwise.?
?The rain was comforting to me.? Her face was serious now.
My arms wrapped around her body. Her soft skin chilled mine to the touch, but my heart warmed.
?I know love. I just hate thinking, maybe I could have had you for a little bit longer,? I slowly whispered in her ear ?I love you?
?On our wedding night, do you remember what I said to you?? her soft voice sounded faint even right next to my ear.
?I am yours and you are mine forever.?
?Yes. I am yours forever. I will always be with you. Just close your eyes, and I will be there.?
Someone rung the doorbell, but I barely noticed. She started to feel lighter in my arms. I quickly opened my eyes, I could hardly see her back; it was fading.
?Don?t go!? I sobbed
?I?m always right here? she patted my chest.
She was disappearing in my arms.
?No!! Don?t leave me.?
?I love you? the last words to feebly escape her mouth.
The scent of freesia still lingered, but it smelled sour now. It was coming from where she lay next to me, in her wedding dress, a rose in her hair. Her skin had creased in parts, which she always complained about, but she never stopped being beautiful to me.
A thudding noise was at the back of my head, getting louder and louder.
A bald man in a uniform tapped me on the shoulder. ?Excuse me sir, my name is John. Your son let us in. We?re here to take the casket.?
Wiping away my tears, I turned to him, ?Just a little bit longer, please?
?Sure? he nodded understandingly.
I brushed my hand over hers, and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
?I will always love you.? I whispered in her ear.
?I?m ready.? I said as confidently as I could to John and his colleague.
They closed the casket, and lifted it up with little effort. They were out of the door much to quickly. I had to fight every urge of stopping them. I stared after the car until it disappeared; the rest of us would be going to the funeral later. But I needed her now.
I closed my eyes, and there she was, standing right in front of me in her wedding dress, as real as she was that night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~?
please tell me what i can improve. what’s bad about this story? is the plot ok? is it logical? does it seem too shallow? Did i capture the essence of writing creatively properly? or does it seem like i’m just telling you, a
Open Question: If I never ate carbs would I never get alzheimers?
March 5th, 2010 Open Question: If I never ate carbs would I never get alzheimers?
I read this thing that said that what actually causes alzheimers is carbs making something… well here’s what exactly it said:
Insulin also forces glycated low-density lipoproteins (LDL), glycated hemoglobin, glycated protein, and oxidized polyunsaturated omega-6 vegetable fatty acids into the wall of the arteries, causing heart disease and other artery diseases. Hyperinsulinemia (high blood insulin level) and hyperglycemia (high blood glucose level) creates glycated protein molecules that are deposited outside and around nerve cells, thereby causing Alzheimer’s disease.
I don’t really know exactly how it all works, but does that mean if I never ate carbs and just did the ketogenic diet I wouldn’t get alzheimers?
p.s I’m not saying I’m actually going to do this, this is just hypothetical.
Are the heart “flutters” you feel sometimes called palpitations? Pregnant and getting them more often.
March 3rd, 2010
genesgirl07 asked:
I have always had “flutters” now and then and have been checked for them in the past and heart was healthy, now I”m pregnant and get them more often. My ob isn’t worried but is sending me to my cardiologist just to be sure so He will know what to give me if I even need anything. I’m pregnant and not crazy about taking meds. I’ve heard that if you had them already, they get worse with pregnancy, anyone else dealing with this?
