Resolved Question: My Dad is having a Defibrillator Implant….Tell me what you’d do….PLEASE!?
Long story short. He has been having (what we know now to be minor/moderate and 10-12 serious) heart attacks) for 4 mths. He went into Salisbury District Hospital as an Out Paitients for tests and 3 mins in had a very minor ‘episode’ but all the medical team around him panicked and got him on the Coronery Care Ward straight away as an In Paitient. He has been there having minor and moderate attacks up to 10 times a day for 6 days now and the medical team did an angio last night which showed that he has a fantastic and very strong heart. The consultant said that he believed that in any other man his age the 10-12 ‘moderate’ episodes would have killed them. Well that told us all that he is in the right place!
He is being transferred from Salisbury to Bournemouth and that they are going to fit him with a Defibrillator Implant.
I’ve done my research and know what to expect and all that but have 1 outstanding problem……
My older sister (there’s just the 2 of us) is in Mauricious and not due back until next fri. The sister in charge on his ward has said that he ‘could’ have a fatal cardiac arrest while waiting. But that’s not a given…he could just carry on having the little ones.
Do I call her and let he know whats happening? When she left, she knew dad had arythmia and that he had been stopped drving in case he had a heart attack at the wheel and that he was going in as an In Patient for tests.
Do I call? Dad deosn’t want me to. I believe she has a right to know so that she can then make an informed decision on whether or not she wants to come home, but then I also know if I call she will be stressed and Dad will be stressed.
Help……tell me what you’d do please?
My sister is a Theatre Sister.
